Alma Bektas is a floral artist and designer who transforms nature into art, positioning herself as a mediator between the wild and the cultivated, the organic and the constructed. Her practice spans floral design, botanical installations, scenography, costume, and set design. She holds a degree in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna and has years of experience working as a florist, which deepens her engagement with the materiality and complexity of plants.
Her work highlights the resilience and defiance of flowers, often focusing on plants perceived as weeds or those that develop protective, spiny qualities to survive in harsh environments. By emphasizing strength, adaptation, and persistence rather than conventional beauty, her sculptures and installations address broader questions around sustainability, ecological fragility, and the human impact on climate change.
Currently based in Vienna, she pushes her practice as a critique of humanity’s destructive obsession with control over nature. Her works act as reminders of violence, exploitation, and loss—rejecting the romanticization of flowers and instead exposing the brutality of our environmental reality. Through this confrontation, she challenges viewers to face the consequences of human-driven ecological collapse.
